Foreword#

Hello everyone ! I am Louis Jonas, a third-year bioengineering student at the Free University of Brussels. In this context this year I chose the optional course “PHYS-F517 - How to make (almost) any experiment using digital fabrication”. The website you are currently on will host my documentation (what I learnt and my projects related to that course).

About me#

I am 21 and I live in the outskirts of Brussels. I have always loved listening to classical music, which has led me to playing the trumpet, as well as the violin which I am still learning. I also practice several sports on a regular basis, such as tennis, road cycling, bouldering (a type of free climbing). During the holidays I also appreciate many sports linked to the mountains. Whether it is skiing, mountain hiking and climbing, glacier hiking, rafting, road cycling or mountain biking, I really love it. Mountains are for me the best holidays destination, I think it has a majestic charm, almost magical.

I first started my studies by a year in civil engineering but due to different reasons (like the Covid and the fact I could not see any use to the maths we were taught) I changed to bioengineering the following year. As I said before, I am now in my third bachelor’s year and have had to choose an optional course. I chose this course because I have always liked DIY work. I wanted to learn and develop various practical skills linked to the machines you can actually find at the FabLabs. I sometimes find those skills missing in my studies and this course seemed thus to be able to fullfil my expectations.

You can follow my progression and projects about this course here. I hope you will find it useful 😉.
